Frequently Asked Questions

We’ve gathered the most common questions about tandem paragliding in St. Moritz and the Engadin to help you prepare for your flight. From meeting points and weather conditions to safety, clothing and photos - here you’ll find everything you need to know before take-off.

If you can’t find your answer here, don’t hesitate to message us directly on WhatsApp or email fly@stmoritz-paragliding.com. We’re happy to assist - unless we’re in the air, in which case we’ll reply as soon as we’ve landed!

Before the Flight

Where is the meeting point?

Your exact meeting point depends on the wind direction, flight time, and passenger weight. The evening before your flight (after 21:00), once the final Engadin wind forecast is published, your pilot will contact you via WhatsApp to confirm the meeting time and location. We currently fly from three mountains – Corvatsch, Muottas Muragl and Lagalb – always choosing the site that offers the best wind and lift for your comfort and safety.

Where do we land?

The landing area depends on the chosen mountain. Upon request, we’ll send you the GPS location of the landing site via WhatsApp, especially if you have friends or family waiting for you.

Where should the spectators wait - take-off or landing site?

The landing site is the best place for spectators. From there, they can enjoy watching your flight, film your landing and share the moment with you right away. For safety reasons, pilots prefer not to have people near the take-off zone, as focus and concentration are crucial during the first seconds of flight.

What should I wear and bring?

We recommend hiking or mountain shoes with good grip, long trousers, a warm or windproof jacket and sunglasses. Gloves are useful in cooler weather. In summer in most cases, unless you take off in the snow, sneakers are sufficient, if sufficiently secured to the foot. Avoid heavy meals or drinks in the 2-3 hours before your flight to prevent motion sickness. Minimum passenger weight: 30 kg; maximum: 110 kg.

Do I need to bring a helmet?

No - we provide all safety equipment, including helmet and harness. If you prefer, you can bring your own ski or bike helmet as long as it fits securely. In case, you dont have any gloves rest assured that pilots have a spare pair for passengers.

Can I bring my phone or camera?

Yes, but only if it’s securely fastened. We also offer professional photo and video options with stabilized cameras as the easiest and safest way to capture your experience hands-free.

Weather & Conditions

What happens if the weather isn’t suitable on the day?

If the conditions are not flyable, your pilot will contact you to reschedule for a better time or day. Paragliding depends entirely on wind and microclimates, so a little flexibility ensures you fly when nature is at her best. Your booking always remains valid.

What if there’s fog in the morning?

Fog is common in the Engadin after rain - a low valley cloud known as the Maloja Snake. Don’t worry: above this layer the sky is usually clear and we often fly over the fog for breathtaking views as it slowly dissolves.

Can we still fly on cloudy days?

Yes. Cloudy days are often ideal for paragliding, with smooth air and beautiful light contrasts. Only heavy rain or strong wind would prevent us from flying.

When do children or light passengers usually fly?

For light passengers and children, we typically schedule flights in the early morning, when the air is calm and valley winds are gentle. Heavier passengers (above 60-70 kg) are usually better suited for later morning or midday flights.

The Experience & Safety

Is take-off difficult?

Not at all. Take-off is a short, exciting moment. With a light breeze, just a few strong steps of run together with your pilot are enough before you gently lift off the ground. The pilot will brief you clearly beforehand and select the most suitable slope and wind direction for your weight and ability.

Is landing hard?

Landing is smooth and easy. Because we always land against the wind, only a few steps are needed before the glider settles softly. Even passengers with limited mobility or advanced age can land comfortably.

Is paragliding dangerous?

No. In Switzerland, tandem paragliding is considered a regular air sport, not an extreme one. Accidents are very rare and all our pilots are licensed, insured and highly experienced. Your pilot’s liability insurance covers any justified claims, and your normal accident insurance usually applies as well.

I’m afraid of heights, can I still fly?

Absolutely. Many guests with fear of heights are surprised by how calm and peaceful paragliding feels. Because there’s no visual connection to the ground like on a ladder or balcony, the sensation is more like floating - gentle and liberating.

How long does the whole experience take?

The full experience takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour, including meeting, gondola ride, safety briefing and flight preparation. The actual flight time depends on conditions and the chosen package, usually between 15 and 35 minutes. Optional upgrades can extend airtime when wind permits.

Because paragliding depends on natural wind cycles, it’s best to keep your day flexible. We recommend avoiding non-refundable bookings for other activities on your flight day. This way, you won’t miss out on the ideal wind window for the smoothest and most beautiful experience.

Extras & Flexibility

I forgot to add photos or video, can I still get them?

Yes, of course! Just let us know before take-off and we’ll activate the video package. You can also add it afterwards via a secure payment link. We always carry cameras on board, so it’s never too late to capture your flight.

Can I change or reschedule my flight?

Yes. Please notify us at least 48 hours before your flight via WhatsApp or email (fly@stmoritz-paragliding.com). Late cancellations are non-refundable. Weather-related rescheduling by your pilot is always free of charge.
